Two men were arrested Saturday in connection with the December robbery of a Lake City Internet café.

Columbia County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Carlos Emmanuel Ruiz, 20, and Zachary Boyd Waters, 22, both of Lake City, and booked them into the Columbia County Detention Facility.

Ruiz, an employee of Internet Café, located at 2240 U.S. 90 West, and Waters were acquaintances, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

On Dec. 23, a masked male suspect cut off power to the cafe while it was open for business, broke into the office and stole money. Customers witnessed the incident.

Detectives determined during the investigation that Waters had planned and executed the robbery but that Ruiz knew about the scheme, said Sgt. Edward Seifert, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.

More than $1,000 was stolen, he said.

Ruiz, who was working at the cafe that night, communicated with Waters via cell phone just before the crime occurred, according to the news release.

Both men have been charged with robbery, grand theft and criminal mischief, and they each are being held in lieu of $56,000 bond.
