Two juveniles passing through Gainesville were arrested Thursday on charges related to the attempted robbery and carjacking of a woman outside the Books-A-Million store at 2601 NW 13th St., police reported.

The incident occurred about 6 p.m. when the teenagers, one from Texas and one from Georgia, saw a woman get out of her car with an iPad and go into the bookstore. Police said they waited until she left the store, then pushed her against a wall and tried to take the iPad and her car keys.

After the victim screamed and fought the two off, they ran from the area. An officer spotted them at a nearby McDonald’s and detained them. Police said the victim identified them as the assailants.

The teens said they were casing the area to commit a carjacking so the could get to the beach, police said.
