Emergency response classes start Jan. 8

Alachua County Emergency Management is offering classes for its Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program, which will run through January and February.
The program teaches residents how to prepare for disasters, as well as disaster response and recovery strategies, according to a county news release.
The program consists of seven classes, which run from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays from Jan. 8 to Feb. 19. These free sessions will be held at the Alachua County Emergency Operations Center, located at 1100 SE 27th St. in Gainesville.
People interested in enrolling in this program must register by Jan. 7, according to the news release. They can register online through the county website, www.alachuacounty.us.
The classes will cover topics ranging from disaster-related medical operations to light search-and-rescue operations.
