The CYM Coffee company, a coffee shop nestled in a corner off Newberry Road, is expanding its business with a larger store, more products and a garden shop, among other ideas for the future.

The business, in the Green Market Plaza at 5402 NW 8th Ave., is a multifaceted operation created by Ken Block, the lead singer of the band Sister Hazel. The name of the business comes from Block's song "Change Your Mind."

"The mission was simply to have a good time doing things that matter," Block said. "We all wanted to spend time together and make the community, and ourselves, a little better in the process."

The coffee shop, which opened in June, previously contained a small grocery store. The store, called the Cymplify Store, will open in a neighboring building in early January. Featured products will include local foods, Florida Gator apparel and hand-dipped ice cream.

Block called the market a store with many stories.

The team supporting the business, a group of friends who grew up in Gainesville, plan to host a variety of events, festivals and workshops in the space.

"We all grew up here. What we are is a group of good friends who decided to get together and bring our own special talents to create something," said Block's wife, Tracy Montgomery-Block. The owners of the business hope to extend the Cymplify name beyond Gainesville someday to give outsiders a taste of local community.
