A Final ‘Tuna' and a closing ‘Carol'

The daffy characters who call Tuna, Texas, home have been back trying to win the town's lawn display contest at the Hippodrome — where “A Tuna Christmas” has been onstage for the first time in two years. The comedy, in which Cameron Francis and Matthew Lindsay play multiple zany characters, offers its final weekend of show Friday through Sunday.

Rusty Salling, meanwhile, is in his 23rd year of taking the stage as Ebenezer Scrooge in "A Christmas Carol," the Hippodrome's annual telling of Charles Dickens' classic story. The Hippodrome, which has staged "A Christmas Carol" for 35 years, offers final performances of the play on Thursday and Saturday.

“A Tuna Christmas”: 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Hippodrome Theatre. Tickets: $15-$30. (375-4477,

A Musical ‘Merry & Bright' at the GCP

For good cheer this season, the Gainesville Community Playhouse has been filling its theater with “White Christmas” in more ways than one. But you'll have to see the musical based on the 1954 film, which features such popular songs by Irving Berlin as the title track, to get that drift. The production, which features a special “surprise” at the end, has final performances Thursday through Sunday at the Vam York Theater.

“White Christmas”: 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday, Gainesville Community Playhouse, 4039 NW 16th Blvd. Tickets: $10-$16. (376-4949)
