Tickets on sale Friday for Merle Haggard performance

Venerable country singer Merle Haggard will perform Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, with tickets going on sale at noon Friday.

A member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Haggard has charted 40 No. 1 country hits including "The Fightin' Side of Me," "Okie From Muskogee" and "Mama Tried," and shared such No. 1 duets as "Pancho and Lefty" with Willie Nelson and "Yesterday's Wine" with George Jones.

The 75-year-old Haggard, a 2010 recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors, also has won more than 20 awards from the Country Music Association, Academy of Country Music and other entities. In 1999, he received his third Grammy, a Hall of Fame Award for the song "Mama Tried."

Tickets for the 7:30 performance, which are $36, $46, $56 and $66, go on sale at noon Friday at the Phillips Center Box Office, University Box Office or through Tickets can be purchased by phone at 392-2787.
