True freshman cornerback Willie Bailey has transferred from the Florida football program, UF coach Will Muschamp announced Monday.
“Willie Bailey has decided to transfer,” Muschamp said. “He and I met last week and he felt like he wanted to move on and we'll support him in that.”
Bailey was a consensus three-star recruit out of Hallandale and originally committed to Miami before joining the Gators in the spring of 2011. He enrolled early at UF, but the depth at his position caused him to redshirt this season.
Playing time would have been just as hard to come by next year, as Florida returns all six of its corners and will also have five-star CB commit Vernon Hargreaves III on campus.
When asked if there will be any additional transfers, Muschamp said that won't be determined until after the bowl game.
Coaches of interest
Muschamp said several schools have contacted him recently about job openings for his assistant coaches.
“Every day — it's great,” Muschamp said. “It happens all the time. We've got a good staff and a lot of people want them to coach at their place.”
Muschamp has always been vocal about supporting his coaches should they have an opportunity to take a better position and advance their career. But he doesn't expect that to happen this year.
“We're very content here and feel like we'll have our full staff intact as we move forward,” Muschamp said.
Muschamp said redshirt junior linebacker Jelani Jenkins (foot) and redshirt sophomore Ian Silberman (shoulder) both had successful surgeries on their injuries and will miss the bowl game. … Seniors Jon Bostic, Frankie Hammond, Omarius Hines, Omar Hunter, Lerentee McCray, Matt Patchan, Sam Robey and Caleb Sturgis graduated from UF over the weekend. Sturgis earned his master's degree.
