A female bicyclist was in critical condition Sunday after being struck by a vehicle in the 3100 block of NW 8th Avenue, authorities said.

The woman, whose name was not released, was unconscious when escorted to the hospital, Gainesville Police Lt. Jorge Campos said Sunday evening.

An EMT transporting the woman to the hospital said on the ambulance communication radio that she had multiple leg fractures. The driver of the motor vehicle was not injured during the crash.

The injured woman is the second bicyclist in a week to be seriously injured on a Gainesville street.

Fuer Lui, 22, suffered major head trauma and was placed into a medically induced coma after being struck by an SUV around 9:30 p.m. Dec. 8 in the 3000 block of Southwest 13th Street.

Witnesses told police that Lui, a University of Florida student, did not have the cross signal and both the north and southbound lanes had a green light when an SUV crashed into her. The driver of the SUV was not injured.
