Police in Gainesville and Lake City announced they will be taking special action during the holidays to encourage people not to drive while drinking and to catch those who do.
The Lake City Police Department will be operating DUI checkpoints at various spots Friday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Checkpoints will be at all or some of these locations: Northwest Washington Street at Hilton Avenue, South Marion Avenue at St. Margarets Street, Southwest Bascom Norris Drive at Marvin Burnett Road and in the 1400 block of West U.S. 90.
GPD, meanwhile, will conduct a "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign that will feature officers aggressively looking out for impaired driving.
Officer Ben Tobias said anyone police suspect of driving while impaired will be arrested.
"Lots of folks will be out during this busy holiday season, enjoying themselves and the holiday festivities, and we want everyone to be safe on our roadways." Tobias said in a news release. "That's why we will be stepping up enforcement to catch and arrest impaired drivers. Please be forewarned. If you are caught drinking and driving impaired, you will be arrested. No warnings. No excuses."
