A Gainesville couple got into an argument so fierce that police say the woman fought with an infant in her arms and the man put a gun to his own head.

Hannah Duvalle, 20, from 1101 SW 20th Place, was arrested and charged with child neglect and domestic battery on Sunday night, according to a Gainesville Police Department arrest report. Police listed Kenneth Medford as the victim in the case.

Duvalle and Medford have been together for two years and have the 4-month-old child in common. The couple started arguing around 10 p.m., the report said. Duvalle hit Medford while the baby was in her arms, and the two struck each other “back and forth numerous times.”

Medford’s mother tried to intervene and get the baby away from the fight, but Duvalle “became enraged” and put her finger’s in Medford’s mother’s face, according to the report. They struggled, the report said, and Duvalle fell to the floor with the baby. She stayed on the floor and refused to move until she was handed a cell phone.

While Medford’s mother and Duvalle fought, Medford pulled out his firearm and pointed it at his head -- threatening to commit suicide. Then he put the gun away.

A 4-year-old, and 11-year-old and a 2-year-old also witnessed the incident.

Police arrived and found no signs of injury on Medford. His mother had some scratches on her left arm. None of the children were physically injured, the report said, but it was apparent they were traumatized.

The Department of Children and Families was notified. Medford was taken for a mental health evaluation under the Baker Act, according to the report, and Duvalle was taken to jail, where she remained on Monday morning.
