A Gainesville woman was arrested early Saturday morning on charges she left her two small children unattended in her home, police reported.

Typhena Johnson, 23, of 1215 NE 12th Terrace, was charged with two counts of child neglect, according to a Gainesville police arrest report.

The 2-year-old and 14-month-old children were found in the home around midnight by another woman, who went there after Johnson did not return earlier text messages.

Police reported the woman could hear the television and knocked on the doors and windows but did not get an answer. She eventually went inside and found the children unattended.

About two hours later, police were able to speak with Johnson, who returned to the home.

The report states she left a friend with the children about 11:15 p.m. while she walked to the store to get a cigarette but didn’t return right away because she believed her friend was with the children.
