A Gainesville man was arrested on a robbery charge early Friday morning after being accused of hitting his roommate with a rake and rifling through his pockets for money, according to an arrest report.
Michael Randall Smith, 27, was charged with armed robbery and resisting arrest. He had been living for two days in a mobile home park at 2200 Waldo Road but listed his address at the St. Francis House shelter, according to the Gainesville Police Department.
Smith’s roommate called police at about 10:36 p.m. Thursday regarding the incident. The report states that he told police his roommate, later identified as Smith, asked him for money and hit him with a rake when he told Smith his assistance check hadn’t arrived.
After being hit, the man fell on the steps of his trailer, and Smith rifled through his pockets for cash, according to the report. Police saw Smith near the trailer with a broken rake handle. He ran but was eventually caught by police.
