MIAMI — A giant Thanksgiving Day turkey has been inflated atop of a new cruise ship after it arrived at Port Miami.
The 55-foot-high, 1,250-pound nylon fowl — sporting a straw beach hat and Caribbean shirt — was placed on the sports deck of the Carnival Breeze Wednesday to mark the debut of the vessel.
Owned by Miami-based Carnival Cruise Lines, the big bird will remain erected until just before the ship sets sail on a two-day cruise Thursday. On Saturday, the vessel is to begin year-round, 6- and 8-day Caribbean cruises.
Carnival also presented a charitable donation to Feeding South Florida to provide 137,500 meals for adults and children in need for the holidays.
Carnival Breeze is the first Carnival ship to be based in Miami in almost 10 years.
