You can add Scooba, Miss., as another recruiting pipeline for Florida coach Will Muschamp.
For the second straight year, Muschamp has landed a highly rated defensive tackle from East Mississippi Community College.
Darious Cummings gave his verbal commitment to the Gators following his official visit to UF on Sunday. The 6-foot-2, 305-pounder was committed to Ole Miss heading into the trip and also held offers from Arkansas, Mississippi State and Texas A&M.
“I am officially a Florida Gator,” Cummings said. “I love the coaches and the way they treat the players. And the opportunity I have to play there for the next two years is my best path to the NFL.”
Cummings was hosted this weekend by junior defensive tackle Damien Jacobs, who also came to Florida from EMCC in the 2011 recruiting cycle.
Both signed with Florida State in 2010 and had a prior relationship from there. Cummings was a consensus four-star prospect and an ESPN150 member out of Astronaut High School in Titusville, Fla., and spent two years with the Seminoles, redshirting one.
The Gators now have 20 members in their 2013 recruiting class. Verbal commitments are not binding from JUCO players until they sign their national letters of intent on Dec. 19.
