A 22 year-old man from Brandon was arrested early Sunday morning after slapping the rear of a mounted police horse in downtown Gainesville.

Olawale Ayodeji Agbede was seen smacking Rusty the police horse on the rear four times at 12 SW 2nd St. around 2 a.m. Sunday, according to Gainesville police.

Rusty, who was dressed with visible GPD patches, moved away from Agbede after being struck, the report said.

Agbede ran from police when they tried to take him into custody. Police caught up to him in a nearby parking lot and placed him under arrest.

Agbede told police that he was afraid the horse was about to knock him over and struck him only twice, the report said.

Agbede will face charges in connection with striking or interfering with a police animal.
