The[a] Alabama man accused of fatally stabbing a Gainesville man in October outside of the Bank of America at 1116 W. University Ave. has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge.

Clifton Rae Baxter, 33, of Ashford, Ala., was formally indicted Thursday by an Alachua County grand jury. He was arrested in Alabama days after the Oct. 26 stabbing of Robert Dockens, 60, of 3625 SE 17th Ave.

Police said Dockens had been stabbed and was lying face down by a nearby restaurant when police arrived. Dockens was taken to Shands at the University of Florida, where he died.

Dockens and Baxter were acquaintances and arrived near the bank in the same vehicle, police reported. An argument over money escalated, and Baxter stabbed Dockens in the chest, according to police reports.
