The local music scene heats up this week as the weather cools down. Musicians have a little less than a month to get in all the shows they can before half the town goes back home for the holidays, so there are plenty of shows to choose in the next few days or so. But perhaps the most intriguing performance will be by a band that has literally traveled halfway across the world to play here. Well, not specifically here, but you get the picture. Electric Eel Shock is a three-piece garage metal band from Tokyo. That's in Japan, as in Asia, as in really far away.

As Americans, we tend to believe we invented all forms of music and that the rest of the world just kind of sits around and waits for us to come up with something new and refreshing, but that's just plain wrong. EES is actually totally awesome, and they've been totally awesome for almost 15 years. AND, they did it on their own. Instead of making demos and shopping their music to labels, they did it all themselves and created their own label, booked their own international tours and made a pretty big impression on the Metal Nation in general. This is definitely a band that's worth your time; and ladies, the drummer is famous for playing practically naked, so there's that.

You can catch them rocking extremely heavily this Saturday, with Japanese punk-rock powerhouse, Peelander Z, locals Pilly Wete and Houdini's Liquor Cabinet, at High Dive starting at 9 p.m.
