Gainesville Catering has opened a special events venue called Cellar 12 at 12 SE 2nd Ave. in downtown Gainesville in the recently closed 2nd Ave. Oyster House location.
The venue is open for events, including holiday parties with the Gainesville Catering international menu of Indian, Italian or Caribbean food.
Catering is also available off site.
Gainesville Catering is managed by 101 Management Group, which also owns 101 Downtown, 101 Cantina and Simon's Club.
The downtown location has hosted several short-lived restaurants since The Sovereign closed in 2006, including Ti Amo for over four years and Blue Water Bay and the Oyster House within the past year.
Vegan 2 Go
David Tran of the Loving Hut vegan food booth at the Union Street Farmers Market plans to open Vegan 2 Go in the former Green Mango location at 7625 Newberry Road — and take the new name for the downtown booth.
Tran said he hopes to open by the end of the month if all goes as planned.
The menu will include raw summer rolls in peanut sauce and fried spring rolls, a beef-like soy barbecue, ginger-onion flavored soy chicken, curries, yellow rice and noodles.
Tran said he coordinated the opening of Loving Hut restaurants in Orlando. He also helped serve thousands of meals a day to victims of Hurricane Isaac in New Orleans and sent dried vegan food to Haiti.
"It's not just for business. I want to share healthy options," he said.
