The GI Bill provided a college education for millions after World War II and played a significant role in making America a world power. Were we to take but $25 billion of the $671 billion annual military budget we could send one million to college for four years, assuming each four years cost $250,000 per GI. In my book that is the way to make and keep America strong because an educated citizenry is the best defense of all. Yes, as a World War II vet. I think the military could make up the reduction by eliminating some of the huge sums they waste each and every year.

William D. Hedges,
