Dr. Fernando Petry was recently named vice president and chief medical officer at Haven Hospice. Petry joins Haven after serving as the medical director of the St. Lucie and Lawnwood Hospitalist Group, a practice he started in 2007.
Petry received his undergraduate degree in biology from Rutgers University and his medical degree from Nova-Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine, and he is board-certified in family medicine. In addition to his medical degree, Petry received his MBA in health-care administration from the University of Miami.
UF student and entrepreneur Nihat Strider recently launched Nihat's Events, which is an event-management company. The company's mission is to provide specialized and large-scale events to entertainment enthusiasts in the area.
Wade Swikle, a recent UF telecommunications graduate who is currently in the Masters and Science for Entrepreneurship Program at UF, recently founded Smarter Moving Solutions.
The company offers delivery, packing and unpacking, loading and unloading rental trucks, and full-service moves. The company's service area extends across Florida.
Emily Eubanks, of Micanopy, was recently chosen as the winner of Florida Farm Bureau's Excellence in Agriculture competition, which is open to farmers and ranchers under the age of 35 who do not derive the majority of their income from an owned farm operation.
Eubanks, who holds both bachelor's and master's degrees in Agricultural Communications from UF, will compete in the national awards program in January.
Eubanks is the communications coordinator for the UF/IFAS Center for Landscape Conservation and Ecology and manages a garden program for television and radio along with a consumer horticulture website.
Tracy Bachmann has been named president and chief operating officer at PRO iNK, a Gainesville marketing strategy and communications firm that provides strategic communications planning, issues management, advertising campaigns, and digital and print marketing materials. Terry Van Nortwick, the firm's founder, continues as board chair and chief executive officer.
