A Fort White man was killed early Saturday morning when he lost control of his car, possibly after suffering from a medical problem, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Dead is Nathaniel Watson, 76, FHP reported in a press release. The accident occurred about 7:09 a.m. on State Road 47 south of Azalea Place in Columbia County.

Watson was driving a 2001 Suzuki Esteem north on SR 47 when he hit several mailboxes and trees before overturning and hitting a large sign. Watson was ejected from the car, FHP reported.

"Due to the extended length of the scene and circumstances surrounding this crash, a medical condition is suspected to be a contributing factor," the release states.

Watson was flown by helicopter to Shands at the University of Florida, where he was declared dead.
