William D. Hedges: Republicans and consistency

If consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, then the Republicans should have great minds. Specifically, they speak of respecting one's privacy but they want to tell you how to behave in bed. They believe in the sanctity of life but they want war and more war to enable lots killing. They believe in America first, but, as Mitch McConnell said four years ago, "The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one term president." They oppose immigration when what has made America great has been the arrival of immigrants as Einstein, Tesla and countless others from Europe, China, India and Latin America. One could go on, space permitting.
