The SEC games worth keeping an eye on this week
Georgia will need to win the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry before it books a trip to Atlanta. Auburn's atrocious offense was more promising under true freshman Jonathan Wallace last week. Defensive end Corey Lemonier said, “To ruin their dreams of going to the BCS championship, that would make our season.” Auburn has 22 players who call Georgia home, and it will be motivated to play spoiler.
Alabama was against the ropes last week in Baton Rouge but came out alive. Surprisingly, the Tide defense looked very pedestrian against LSU, giving up 475 yards. Texas A&M is the last stiff test for Alabama, which has FCS Western Carolina (1-9) and Auburn (2-7) to finish up the regular season.
LSU's loss to Alabama dashed any hopes of the Tigers winning any titles or even making a BCS bowl unless Florida and Georgia lose a game apiece. The bright side is, QB Zach Mettenberger had his best game against Alabama. It's clear that Mississippi St. was benefiting from a weak schedule early on, and LSU hasn't lost back-to-back home games since 2001.
