An argument over a son being late to pick his mother up at the hospital led to the arrest Wednesday afternoon of both.

The mother hit her son with a gun and he head-butted her, according to arrest reports from the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.

June Buncombe Hayes, 48, of 825 SE 43rd St., was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and Mario Hayes, 21, of the same address, was charged with abuse of a disabled adult with harm.

The incident began when Mario Hayes was late to pick his mother up at the hospital after a short stay. They argued on the way home, and it escalated once they got home, with June Hayes telling her son to leave the house, which he refused to do, the reports state.

June Hayes went to her bedroom, got a pistol, told him once again to leave and struck him on the right side of his head when he again refused, according to the report.

In the meantime, deputies say Mario Hayes grabbed his mother by the arms, struck her in her forehead with his head and then left.
