Trader Joe’s grocery store will start taking job applications Wednesday to prepare for a December opening in Butler Plaza.

The company did not give a specific opening date.

People interested in becoming “crew members” should apply in person from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 3227 SW 35th Blvd., behind Bonefish Grill and between Picture This and Acceptance Insurance. Applications will be available on site or at under Careers.

The company does not disclose how many people it hires for stores.

According to a job description, employees can expect to do a little bit of everything, including working the cash register, bagging groceries, stocking shelves, building displays and helping customers. The company also is looking for artistic people to make handmade signs and cooks to prepare bite-sized samples.

“Physically active, upbeat, positive and fun individuals are the folks we want on our Crew,” says the job description. “A high school graduate with flexibility to work evenings and weekends is preferred.”

The 14,500-square-foot store is under construction in a portion of the former Goody’s location at 3728 Archer Road near Best Buy.

Trader Joe’s is known for its loyal customers, 2,000 private-label items, “Two Buck Chuck” wine and Hawaiian motif. The Monrovia, Calif.-based company operates 380 stores in 34 states.
