“Driven, enthusiastic, focused and motivated, with a splash of fun mixed together.” These characteristics describe candidate Leanetta McNealy, who is seeking a seat on the Alachua County School Board. She has been an educator for more than 38 years.
Leanetta’s career included serving as a teacher, curriculum specialist, and 14 years as the principal of Duval Elementary Fine Arts Academy. She transformed this traditional elementary school into a fine arts magnet, which was a new concept in Alachua County created under her leadership. She accomplished this by writing and receiving a $250,000 grant from the federal government.
Spanning those 38 years, Leanetta has done the following:
—Supervised professional and non-instructional personnel and clerical level staff.
—Coordinated professional development activities for Alachua County teachers.
—Organized, planned and coordinated annual seminars for aspiring University of Florida College of Education teachers.
—Served as a panelist on behalf of the Florida Commissioner of Education.
—Presented education-related material at national and state conferences.
—Recruited and hired teachers for Alachua County schools.
—Partnered with the UF Professor in Residence program for nearly 10 years.
—Transformed a traditional elementary school into a fine arts magnet.
Leanetta McNealy has proven that she is more than qualified to speak for and serve the Alachua County school district as a member of the School Board of Alachua County. The three areas that she will focus on as a School Board member will include the following:
—Empowering all school employees by allowing personnel to participate in overall decision-making and supporting plans to enhance/increase all employee salaries and benefits.
—Putting children first – a critical part of her platform — by advocating for children and working to create a safe environment at all schools.
—Building partnerships that will include collaborating with UF and Santa Fe College.
Leanetta McNealy believes that the students and teachers of Alachua County are our greatest assets. If you want a School Board member who will be visible and vocal, then cast your vote on or before Nov. 6 for Leanetta McNealy.
