Gainesville police have arrested a man in connection with a homicide on Friday morning at the Bank of America on 116 W. University Ave.
Clifton Baxter, 33, was located in Dothan, Ala. and arrested on Saturday afternoon after he was interviewed by detectives, according to the GPD. He was being held Sunday on a $500,000 bond.
GPD has not released the exact charges facing Baxter or the identity of the victim from Friday's attack. Police have said he was a black man in his 50s who stands about 5 feet 10 and has a heavy build, gray hair and a mustache.
The victim reportedly collapsed on a sidewalk beside the nearby Papa John's restaurant. A 911 caller at 5:23 a.m. Friday said the victim was lying facedown. He was transported to Shands at the University of Florida, where he died.
Police said that at the crime scene, a man had been seen rummaging through the victim's pockets, but it wasn't clear if that man was the killer.
A man is shown in security video footage from the Bank of America ATM near where the homicide occurred, and the victim appears in related image frames. Police also obtained, from another camera in the area, a picture of a van that they believe was in the area at the time of the homicide and was possibly driven by a white male.
