The SEC games worth keeping an eye on this week
Unbelievably, No. 1 Alabama comes into this game statistically better defensively than a year ago. However, the Vols (22nd nationally in offense) offer the first test that the Tide defense has gotten since facing Michigan and QB Denard Robinson in the season opener. Still, UT is giving up about 179 rushing yards a game as an ever-improving Alabama running game struts into Rocky Top.
South Carolina could afford a loss last week to LSU, but it couldn’t afford having weaknesses revealed before visiting Florida. The Tigers ran for 258 yards against the Gamecocks’ defense. Meanwhile, USC’s O-line only managed 34 rushing yards and allowed a season-high four sacks of QB Connor Shaw.
No one has been able to stop Texas A&M freshman QB Johnny Manziel since Florida did in the second half of the Aggies’ opener. Since then, Manziel has broken the SEC record for total offensive yards in a single game ... twice. With the 12th Man by its side, can No. 18 Texas A&M pull off an upset of No. 6 LSU and grab a huge program booster in its first SEC season?
