A motorist was killed near Interlachen Thursday afternoon when he failed to notice that a tractor-trailer in front of him had stopped on State Road 20 and rammed into the back of it, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Dead is Christopher Deloach Davis, 48, of Hollister in Putnam County, FHP reported in a media release.

The accident happened about 3:30 p.m. on SR 20 and Lake Galilee Drive west of Interlachen. Davis was eastbound in a 1995 Ford F150 pickup truck behind a 2009 Mack truck with a trailer driven by Charles Wales, 45, of Auburndale.

The semi was stopped in the road because of a road construction lane closure, FHP reported. Davis failed to see the stopped rig and drove into the back of it.

Davis was flown by helicopter to Shands at the University of Florida, where he died, FHP reported.
