The Alachua County Coalition for the Homeless and Hungry has launched a coat drive to assist the homeless.

The charity is asking for the donation of new and clean gently used coats, jackets, sweatshirts, sweaters, gloves, mittens, scarves, hats, sleeping bags, tents and blankets. Large and extra large coats and jackets are of particular need.

Take donations to the Alachua County Housing Authority, 703 NE First St., between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Coats will be accepted through March 1, 2013.

Agencies that are members of the coalition will distribute the donated items for free.
