FAVORITE DIVE: Back 1 ½
A rea swimmer/diver who you would pay to watch: Probably Kacey Rodriguez of GHS. We have been club diving together. She has really done a lot. We have had competitions and practice together all the time. We are always learning some crazy new dives.
B est movie I've ever seen? “The Shawshank Redemption,” it is just an all-time classic. The best movie ever. Or “Blue Crush.” They are both so good.
C oach John Speed's best advice for me: “Don't balk.” That means don't stop on the board before diving. I tend to do that a lot.
D ay of a meet, I do what to prepare myself: I like to listen to music if I'm nervous, like for big meets.
E SPN's best program? I don't really watch, unless gymnastics is on.
F avorite sport besides the one I'm in: Gymnastics. I did gymnastics for 10 years. Since I was like a baby, like 2 or 4. I quit gymnastics in the middle of my freshman year and then I joined diving halfway through the season.
G oals for the season? I want to make it in the top three at state.
H appiest day of my life was when ... I got my driver's license so I could be more independent.
I nteresting thing about me away from diving: I like to surf, and I like to paint.
J oker on the team: Paige Bastings, that's for the dive team. For the swim team, Leah Lykins. Everything they say, I can't keep a straight face.
K ey to becoming a good diver: I think diving is a mental thing. You can psyche yourself out a lot. But it is all about focus and consistency. Consistency is the key.
L east favorite diving moment? Smacking. That's when you hit the water and you just smack, hard. Yes, it hurts. When you first learn a dive, it happens. It is not supposed to happen. I haven't smacked too bad in a while, which is good.
M usic I enjoy listening to: I like all types of music. I like reggae, alternative, classic rock, but I'm not a big country fan.
N ickname? None.
O ne person who inspires me the most: My older sister, Marissa. She is an all-around great person, really hard working and talented in everything she does. She is four years older.
P otential college major: I'm open to a lot of ideas, don't really know yet. It will be something that I am going to enjoy.
Quiet time activity: Either read, paint or listen to my iPod. I'm also learning to play guitar.
R eaction to placing sixth last year at state in diving? I actually was tied for fifth. They gave me the sixth-place medal because the girl I was tied with was older, so they gave her the fifth-place medal. I was super excited about it. The year before I didn't make it to state, so I was excited I made it that far.
S uperstition I have: I have to have my shammy when diving. It is needed at all times. I used to have one and I lost it, so I have this sort of ratty shammy that has holes in it. But it is my lucky shammy.
T ext, call or email? Call.
U niversities or colleges I am considering: Somewhere out of state. I definitely don't want to stay here. I was born in Gainesville, and I'm ready for something new.
V acation spot I love? I love California. Anywhere there is a beach, I will be there. All my family lives there. My sister was born there. We are all big California people.
W hy I became a diver? After I quit gymnastics, I still wanted to be able to flip around. So I think I kind of went along with it.
X box, PlayStation or Wii? Wii.
Y ear I was born: 1996.
Z oo animal I like most: Dolphins. I would rather see them in the ocean than in a tank.
