Gainesville, Trenton still top-ranked in AP poll

Following its dominating 56-7 road win over Citrus on Friday, Gainesville (6-0) remained No. 1 in Class 6A in the latest Associated Press Florida High School Football Poll released Monday.

Trenton (5-0) also stayed at No. 1 in Class 1A, although Union County (6-0) closed the gap following its 28-14 District 7 win over No. 3 Dixie County on Friday. Trenton picked up 12 of the 16 first-place votes while Union had four, with the final point total just eight points apart.

Columbia (5-1), a dominating 52-7 winner over unbeaten Orange Park Ridgeview, moved up to No. 6 in 6A. Dixie County (4-2) dropped to No. 5 in 1A, and Newberry (4-2), a 16-7 winner over Chiefland in a key District 7 game, topped those also receiving votes.
