HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Police say a Florida man is accused of slapping his wife during a dispute over the 2012 presidential election.

Seventy-four-year-old Peter Schwartz told Broward County Judge John "Jay" Hurley on Wednesday that the argument with his wife started after they'd gone out to dinner.

Schwartz told the judge his wife said, "you're like my mother, you like Romney."

The South Florida SunSentinel (http://sunsent.nl/UGQMmL ) reports Schwartz told police he slapped his wife on the face. She told police she ran from her husband because he was yelling at her about the candidates.

During his first court appearance on Wednesday, Hurley ordered Schwartz to stay away from his wife until the case moves to another judge.

The newspaper says Schwartz and his wife are listed as having no party affilication.
