Weather service warns of strong storm approaching

A strong storm is heading toward Alachua County from the east, bringing heavy rain, 40- to 50-mph winds and hail, according to an alert from the National Weather Service.

Areas of fog are also expected to develop over the area late tonight and early Friday morning, the alert stated.

The hazardous weather outlook included Alachua, Suwannee, Columbia, Baker, Bradford, Duval, Union, Gilchrist and Putnam counties.

The weather service also issued a flood advisory for Alachua, Clay, Bradford, Putnam and Marion counties.

Rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches are possible.
