President Obama missed an opportunity to exhibit the foundation of the United States of America's exceptiomalism to the world from the high bully pulpit of the United Nations.

Before the world the President compared and contrasted the video that denegrated the deity held sacred by 1.7 billion of the world's citizens . As a comparison he used the fact that, as President of America, he is demeaned and called all sorts of things, and he did not let that bother him. That contrast is embarassing, perhaps a bit narcissistic and certainly childish (sticks and stones).

The proper contrast: USA's freedoms can be messy . They protect pornogrophers and idiots who produce mean-spirited hurtful videos with little or no redeeming value. But the same freeedoms also allow people of same the sex to show affection in public and march in open demonstration/parades declaring their support for homosexuality without being afraid of jail or being executed. The same freedoms allow women of the USA to vote and drive cars and testify in court without a male vouching for her. The same freedoms allow us to assemble and peacefully protest against actions of our own government. Think how much difference that one freedom might make in Iran.

I fear the President missed and opportunity to show the whole world the USA is a lighthouse that displays to the rest of the world not a perfect way but a better way forward . To equate to the world our tolerance for free speech against a back drop of violent intolerance by others.
