Applications are due Thursday for the city of Gainesville Homebuyer Lease Purchase Program for first-time homebuyers.
Submit your application along with a certified lender's pre-qualification letter. The deadline is 5 p.m. and applications must be hand-delivered to the Housing Division office in Room 245 of the Thomas Center at 306 NE 6th Ave.

HealthStreet, a community-based effort to reduce disparities in health care and clinical trials, is moving to a new location.
Beginning Monday, HealthStreet, formerly at the University of Florida Eastside Campus, will be located at 2401 SW Archer Road. Hours of operation will be from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

The Alachua County Health Department is now offering flu shots.
The shots are being offered from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Health Department at 224 SE 24th St. Walk-ins are accepted. The cost is $25 and free for those with Medicare Part B and those ages 6 months to 18 years who are uninsured, have Medicaid or an insurance that does not cover the immunization.
Alachua County schoolchildren who returned their permission slips will begin receiving the FluMist soon.

A new dinner theater has a home in northeast Gainesville with the inaugural Brew Spot Cafe Dinner Theater.
The season opens with "Trouble in Silver City," a mystery where the audience will become sleuths. The audience is invited to wear their favorite western attire, and prizes will be awarded for best outfits.
It will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the cafe and theater at 1000 NE 16th Ave. Building H. Tickets are $30, and include a dinner of salad, an entree, bread, dessert, coffee, tea, water, and one glass of beer and or wine.

The Porters community is hosting several events in October.
All events will be held at the Porters Community Center at 512 SW 6th Ave.
There will be a Health (Accessibility) Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 13 for all ages, especially the elderly. Sponsored by the University of Florida Public Health Department, there will be health- and medical-related vendors, food, and car seat safety demonstrations. Those needing canes also are asked to attend.
And there will be a free haunted house from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 26 to celebrate Halloween.
The Santa Fe College Cardiovascular Technology Program will offer free cardiac and vascular ultrasound screenings.
The screenings will take place by appointment only on Friday and also Oct. 26 in Room WA-113 at the northwest campus at 3000 NW 83rd St.
Cardiac ultrasound involves the imaging of the heart. Vascular ultrasound provides pictures of the veins and arteries in the body. Testing is available to those 18 and older.
