Two men robbed a Lake City Wendy’s at gunpoint after midnight on Tuesday.
According to a Lake City Police Department release, one of the men, Kelvin D. Brown, 26, was arrested on charges of armed robbery and aggravated battery, but the other man is at large.
The release gave the following account:
Employees were closing the store when the two masked men came in through the back door. The man with the gun ordered two employees into the freezer and took a cellphone from one of them.
They went to the front of the store and ordered the rest of the employees to the ground. One refused and the gunman pistol-whipped him, breaking his nose and giving him several facial fractures, police said
The armed man then went to the manager, put a gun in her face and allegedly said, “Give me all the money or I’m going to kill you.”
The manager complied. During the robbery, Brown removed the bandana from his face twice, and was recognized as a former employee, police said.
The suspects fled on foot with an undetermined amount of money. They headed west on Southwest St. Johns Street and left a scattered trace of bills and coins in their wake.
The second suspect wore a black T-shirt, blue jeans and a camouflage bandana on his face.
Brown was booked in the Columbia County without bond. Anyone with information can contact the Lake City Police Department anonymously on the TIP line at 386-719-2068.
