ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — A deputy is recovering from injuries after being attacked by a pit bull while trying to serve a warrant at a southwest Florida home.

Pasco Sheriff's deputies are investigating whether the dog was let out of the home intentionally after the deputy tried to serve a warrant on Sunday.

Authorities said the unnamed deputy was walking back to his car when the dog attacked. The deputy shot and killed the dog.

The deputy was transported to a Tampa hospital and treated for serious injuries to his arm.

A suspect is being questioned.
