A worker was killed Monday morning during an explosion that took place while he was checking a diesel fuel tank at a Lake City plant, according to a report.
Perry Pollard, 30, of Lake City was checking a tank at Anderson Columbia plant at 871 NW Guerdon St. at 5:15 a.m. when the accident occurred, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Fire officials said the tank contained No. 5 diesel, and there was no contaminant threat to the surrounding neighborhood.
Officials from the State Fire Marshal’s office and other agencies were on hand to determine the cause of the explosion, the report noted.
