In the latest Associated Press Florida High School Football Poll, released Monday, the Class 1A rankings contain four local teams among the top four in Trenton, Union County, Dixie County and Chiefland, in that order.

Trenton (4-0), which took over No. 1 last week, stayed there despite Union County's impressive 28-21 victory at Class 3A Fort White, improving those Tigers to 5-0 on the season. Dixie County (4-1), which has won four straight, moved up two spots to No. 3, followed by Chiefland (4-1), which was making its first appearance in the rankings for at least 10 years, according to athletic director Jim O'Neal.

The Indians, the last area school to win a state football title in 1997, entered the season with a 23-game losing streak. On Friday, Chiefland will host Newberry (3-2) and Dixie County will host Union County in two critical District 7-1A contests.

Gainesville (5-0) took 14 of 16 first-place votes to remain No. 1 in Class 6A. Columbia (4-1), which rallied with 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to defeat Ocala Vanguard 28-20, dropped one spot to No. 7. The Tigers have a key District 3-6A game Friday against Orange Park Ridgeview in Lake City.
