A man tried to rape a University of Florida student near Weimer Hall Monday night but ran off when she thwarted the attack, said Maj. Brad Barber of the UF police department. The man was armed with a knife.
The incident was reported about 9:30 p.m. The woman told police she was walking near the building when a man tried to sexually assault her, Barber said.
He ran and, as of 10 p.m., had not been apprehended. The culprit was white, tall and wore a dark shirt and khaki shorts, Barber said.
UF issued an alert to students and staff on the incident shortly after it was reported.
