One dead, 5 hurt in Columbia crash

A Lake City man died following a crash Saturday night on U.S. 90 that left five other people injured, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The FHP gave this account: Virendra Patel, 47, was driving a Jeep Commander on the highway east of Southwest Faith Drive around 9:25 p.m. when he experienced some sort of medical emergency that caused him to become incapacitated.
The Jeep swerved across the highway and went into a fence and overturned.
Patel was taken to Lake City Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Five passengers, all of Lake City, were injured. Four of them were taken to Lake City Medical Center: Binduben Patel, 47, in serious condition; Usha Patel, 72, in serious condition; Mahima Patel, 14, with minor injuries; Neil patel, 10, with minor injuries.
Dipti Patel, 50, was taken to Shands at the University of Florida, where he was in critical condition.
