Florida has lost one of its men’s basketball commitments for the 2013 class.
Power forward Schuyler Rimmer confirmed Tuesday that he’s reopened his recruitment after pledging to the Gators last month. The 6-foot-9 Rimmer would not confirm or deny anonymous reports that his full scholarship offer was pulled and he was asked to walk on as a freshman.
“The reasons I’ve decided to keep between myself, the coaches at UF and my family,” Rimmer said.
Rimmer, an Orlando native, grew up a Gator fan and said last month that it was his dream to play for Florida. Both his parents attended school at UF.
“It was a hard decision to come to,” Rimmer said. “But I felt like it was better for me to do it now rather than wait and have it be too late.”
A three-star recruit, Rimmer said he has some visits lined up and interest remains high from several schools, including Stanford, Vanderbilt and Miami.
Florida still has a pair of five-star commitments for its 2013 class — point guard Kasey Hill and power forward Chris Walker. Both are expected to sign letters of intent in November’s early signing period.
