The first goal for junior transfer Adriana Leon gave No. 22 Florida (4-3-1, 1-1 SEC) a 2-1 overtime win at Auburn (4-5-1, 0-2 SEC) on Sunday.
Leon, who joined the Gators this fall after playing for Notre Dame the last two seasons, ended the match with just 32 second remaining in the first overtime.
Florida begins a four-match home stand Friday when Tennessee visits James G. Pressly Stadium. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
Volleyball: Florida (8-2, 2-0 SEC)s swept Kentucky (6-5, 0-1 SEC), 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-18), in front of a crowd of 1,898 at Memorial Coliseum.
Florida’s veteran hitters led the way offensively on Sunday, as seniors Betsy Smith and Tangerine Wiggs each notched 10 kills on the afternoon, hitting .444 and .556, respectively. Junior middle blocker Chloe Mann led all players with a match-high 12 kills against the ’Cats, hitting a match-high .579 to go along with three blocks.
The Gators return home to face Missouri on Friday.
Men’s tennis: Three Gators advanced to finals action at the 2012 Bedford Cup, hosted by Florida at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex. Redshirt freshman Gordon Watson advanced to the singles final, while juniors Mike Alford and Florent Diep will play in the doubles final.
Both the singles and doubles final will begin at 9 a.m. on the stadium courts at Linder Stadium.
Three Gators competed in singles quarterfinals on Sunday, with Alford and Watson advancing to the semifinals to face each other.
