Police are looking for an armed man in connection with an incident around 2 p.m. in a parking garage at Shands at the University of Florida.
No injuries were reported, and officers with the University Police Department detained one man in Garage 10, which is north of Archer Road at Newell Drive, according to a UF alert.
Police are looking for a black man wearing a white shirt and carrying a handgun. They say he left the campus area, according to an alert.
"No one was injured, and we don't think he's out to shoot anybody," said UPD Deputy Chief Darren Baxley.
According to a witness and police, the incident started on a ramp between the first and second floors of the parking garage. Three people were involved, two men and a woman.
Jolene Hendrickson said she was on the first floor when she heard the two men shouting and cursing at each other. She said she yelled at them "to knock it off'' and called 911.
At the same time, police said there was a domestic dispute going on elsewhere in the parking garage, and police are investigating to determine if the incidents are related.
The Gainesville Police Department and Alachua County Sheriff's Office were participating — and a helicopter was being used — in the search.
Anyone with information about the incident may contact university police at 392-1111.
