An Ocala man was arrested Monday in Gainesville on a felony drug charge after a police officer responding to a traffic infraction reported smelling marijuana wafting from the man’s rental car.
Charles Brennen Jr., 35, of 3838 NE 41st St. in Ocala, was charged with sale or possession with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver a controlled substance in connection with the incident.
After the officer noted the smell of marijuana, the car was searched and 150 grams of marijuana was found in the center console, according to an arrest report prepared by the Gainesville Police Department.
The marijuana was separated into five plastic bags, each weighing about 30 grams — packaging consistent with drug sales, the report states.
As well, $2,659 in cash was found on Brennen, separated in six separate stacks in two pockets — also typical of drug sales, the report said.
After his arrest, Brennen was booked into the Alachua County jail, where he remained late Tuesday in lieu of $75,000 bond.
