No. 6 LSU vs. Texas A&M

Last Modified: Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 7:10 p.m. counts down the top 25 games in the SEC for the 2012 season.

When: Oct. 20

Where: Kyle Field, College Station, Texas

Why it's No. 6: The Tigers and Aggies have played many times over the years, but this will be one of the most important meetings because it's the first time they've gone head-to-head as conference foes, and LSU is considered a strong national title contender. This figures to be a tough road test for LSU, and a chance for Texas A&M to send shock waves through its new conference.

Series history: These two tradition-rich programs from bordering states have quite a history that goes all the way back to 1899, the first year the Tigers and Aggies met on the field. They have played each other 50 times, with LSU holding a 27-20-3 edge. These two teams last played just two years ago, with the Tigers thumping the Aggies 41-24 in the Cotton Bowl.

Rivalry on a scale of 1-100: 85. This is a very good rivalry already, and it's only going to grow (and probably in a hurry) now that the Tigers and Aggies are in the same conference and in the same division. These two schools have always battled each other for some top players in recruiting. Now, they're also going to be playing each other every season in what could become one of the SEC's most intense rivalries. It really is a natural.
