Gatorsports.com counts down the top 25 games in the SEC for the 2012 season.
NO. 18 VANDERBILT AT GEORGIA
When: Sept. 22
Where: Sanford Stadium (Athens, Ga.)
Why it's No. 18: Believe it or not, this could be a huge game in the Eastern Division race, mainly because the Commodores have made a quantum leap under new coach James Franklin, who made Vanderbilt competitive (and relevant) in his first season in 2011. The Bulldogs have a relatively easy SEC schedule, but this will not be an easy game for the Bulldogs, who squeaked out a 33-28 victory in Nashville last season.
Series history: This is one of the oldest rivalries in the SEC, dating back to 1893. This is a series that has a lot of history — and a lot of Georgia victories. The Bulldogs own the series with a record of 52-18-2. Vandy's last win came in Athens in 2006.
Rivalry on a scale of 1-100: 50. It would have been considerably lower if not for last season's game, which has turned up the heat in this rivalry quite a bit. At the end of a narrow ‘Dog win, Vandy coach James Franklin and Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham got into a heated shouting match. This game now has what all good rivalries have: two teams that do not like each other.
