Former standout Florida kick returner Brandon James has been named the head football coach at St. Augustine St. Joseph Academy.

The school announced the hiring of James in a release Thursday afternoon.

“We are happy to announce coach James as the next head football coach at St. Joseph Academy High School,” St. Joseph Principal Tom McGlinn said in a statement. “Coach James has been a part of St. Augustine his entire life and is a local hero that is to be commended for his many football accomplishments in high school, college and professionally.”

James was a standout player at St. Augustine High School and was signed by Urban Meyer in 2005. He went on to become one of the top return specialists in school history, setting 11 UF records for punt and kickoff returns.
