Who: Buchholz (19-8) at Neptune Beach Fletcher (18-9)
What: Class 7A, Region 1
What’s next: Buchholz would travel to Tallahassee Chiles or Orange Park Fleming Island in Tuesday’s regional semifinals; Fletcher would host Fleming Island or travel to Chiles.
Extra bases: After missing out on the playoffs a year ago, Buchholz is back in the regional quarterfinals for the 13th time in the last 14 years. Senior Weston Clarke leads the Bobcats at the plate, hitting .386 with 9 doubles and 27 RBIs. Junior pitcher Phoenix Sanders (5-3) has a 1.95 ERA and has held batters to a .202 average. Fletcher, making its first regional semifinals since 2008, is led by Tyler Deel (.444) and pitcher Zach Pinchot (7-1, 2.41 ERA).
Who: Panama City Bay (8-13) at Suwannee (17-7)
What: Class 5A, Region 1
What’s next: Suwannee would host Wakulla or travel to Pensacola West Florida in Tuesday’s regional semifinals; Bay would travel to West Florida or Wakulla.
Extra bases: The host Bulldogs are in their third straight regional quarterfinal, losing a year ago to Mount Dora in the regional semifinals. Suwannee is led by freshman Dallas Ogburn (.338, 8 doubles, 20 RBIs) and senior pitcher Mike Cronan (6-3, 1.46 ERA, 55 strikeouts). The visiting Tornadoes, a fifth seed from District 1 who emerged to the playoffs by upsetting top-seeded Panama City Arnold, are in their third regional quarterfinal in four years.
Who: Oviedo Master’s Academy (9-18) at P.K. Yonge (23-4)
What: Class 3A, Region 1
What’s next: P.K. Yonge would host Daytona Beach Father Lopez or St. Francis in Tuesday’s regional semifinals; Master’s Academy would host St. Francis or travel to Daytona Beach Father Lopez.
Extra bases: The Blue Wave are in their fifth straight regional quarterfinal, and are looking for their first playoff win since 2004. P.K. Yonge is led by senior standout Justin Landers (10-1, 0.93 ERA, 90 strikeouts; .453 BA, 3 homers, 32 RBIs) and freshman catcher Fletcher Simmons (.417, 27 RBIs). The visiting Eagles, who have lost four of their last five games and are making their first playoff appearance since 2008, are led by junior Steven Miles (.441, 18 RBIs).
Who: St. Francis (14-12) at Daytona Beach Father Lopez (13-9)
What: Class 3A, Region 1
What’s next: St. Francis would travel to P.K. Yonge or Oviedo Master’s Academy in Tuesday’s regional semifinals; Father Lopez would host Master’s Academy or travel to P.K. Yonge.
Extra bases: The visiting Wolves are in their fourth regional quarterfinal in the last six years and first since 2009. St. Francis is led by senior Grant Maris (.384, 16 RBIs) and junior Ted Mitchell (.382, 22 RBIs). Junior Nick Restuccia (.406, 21 RBIs) leads the host Green Wave, who are in their third straight regional quarterfinal.
